Ajijic/Chapala Mexico-Still an Undiscovered Retirement GemPosted by: Don & Linda Wright in MyBlog on Mar 31, 2009 |
Even though we have thousands of Americans, Canadians and other foreigners living in the Ajijic / Chapala area in harmony with the friendly Mexicans, these are names that bring wonderment to many north of the US -Mexican border.
Most people are aware of the resort areas that attract thousands of visitors for a week.
Lakeside (the common term for Ajijic, Chapala and the many other small villages on the north side of Lake Chapala is not a popular " one week" tourist area. It is, a popular place for "snowbirds" for 3 to 6 months during the winter, retirees on a full time basis who love life , typically had travelled abroad during their earlier life, and have a knowledgable appreciation for locations that have a much to offer.
These would include such criteria as great weather (all year), lots to do, a reasonable cost of living, excellent medical, is close (40 minutes) from a major city (Guadalajara-Mexico's 2nd. largest), 25 minutes to its Airport, and is an easy drive to resorts, other Colonial fascinating cities and to the US border.
Future blogs will elaborate on these and other topics that should be of interest to Boomers and others looking for an exciting and fulilling retirement.

We have lots of questions about retiring there and would appreciate any information. Primarily, we are concerned about private medical insurance and medical facilities available.
Thank you,
