One excellent (although often overlooked) option in Mexico real estate is that of a lakefront home in places like Lake Chapala real estate, or Morelia real estate in the country’s central interior.  For some people this option offers advantages over the more popular beachfront options, including the following.

Views – These areas have a distinct landscape, namely lakes surrounded by rolling hills covered with fields and forests.  Many homes for sale in these areas offer beautiful views of the countryside, accented by the white homes and red-clay roofs of the quaint lakefront towns.

Prices, Cost of Living – Since these areas have not been discovered by international tourism or expats to the extent that the main beachfront destinations have, real estate is somewhat less expensive.  The cost of living is also lower.  Sometimes, fewer services/activities are available, but life takes on a more relaxing pace.

Weather – Not everyone enjoys 110 degrees on a beachfront; the lakes in central Mexico’s highlands tend to have slightly more moderate weather, ranging between 50 on “winter” nights and 85/90 on warmer summer days.  These areas also have plenty of sunshine, and even the winter days warm up with the sun in the middle of the day, yet they are idea for anyone who likes to put on a fall jacket in the evening, or warm up beside a fireplace.

While those looking for the hot beaches will do best to look in those areas, the lakefront options most certainly hold a distinct appeal of their own that will appeal to a certain kind of tastes.
