From 1990 to 2010, the obesity rate in America has double in some states and tripled in others. The consequences are wider than our waistlines: soaring rates of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes (the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness and amputation).

Want to live or retire closer to the US or Canada? Have grandkids? Living in Puerto Vallarta as I do is close enough to the US for easy travel but far enough away from the border and concerns for safety. I moved here three years ago and never regreted a moment. Life there has numerous possibilities depending on who you are or who you want to become! It's easy, simple, healthy, safe, and much less expensive than what you are spending now. Come for a visit, immerse yourself, check out possible locations and properties for rent or purchase. Before you come for a visit to PV, check out the folks at www.learnvallarta.com for living and moving information, free consultations re: healthcare, insurances, immigration, housing, shopping, pets and vets, or whatever you need to know to consider moving or retiring here. They take the mystery out of your relocation concerns.

Jay Leno leaves The Tonight Show: Will boomers follow him?Posted by Thomas Green in The Tonight Show , NBC , Marilynn Mobley , Leno , humor , Edelman , Conan O'Brien , comedian , Boomers , Baby Boomer Insights |
By Marilynn Mobley
I watched my last Tonight Show on Friday night. I have been a huge fan of the show for 30 years and am one of Jay Leno's biggest fans. Jay (and Johnny Carson before him) have been there for me through countless nights of insomnia. So, you can bet I'll be watching at 10 when Leno returns in September.
While I never say never, I can't see myself ever purposely tuning in to watch Conan. I've given him many opportunities over the years to entertain me and he just never has. He reminds me of a 15-year-old class clown.... goofy, sophomoric and just plain boring most of the time. My husband couldn't disagree more. He thinks Conan is hilarious. (Other than this serious flaw, Ralph's quite a good guy, just for the record.)

Use a Buyer's Agent When Purchasing Real Estate in MexicoPosted by Jim Scherrer in villas , travel , retirement , real estate , Puerto Vallarta , Mexico , homes , golf , deep sea fishing , condos , buyers agents , Boomers , boomer living |
So, you've reached a point in your life where you think that you've learned a little about business, finance, contract negotiating, real estate, etc. and have at least a layman's knowledge of law pertaining to each. Being that savvy, you might also be aware of the incredible retirement locations and values south of the border; furthermore, you might even be considering Mexico as your retirement destination. If so, you might as well forget everything you've learned and leave your law degree at home!

Bargains Galore!--35% Discount on Everything in Puerto Vallarta, MexicoPosted by Jim Scherrer in villas , travel , retirement , real estate , Puerto Vallarta , Mexico , homes , golf , deep sea fishing , condos , buyers agents , Boomers , boomer living |
Well, it appears as though the effects of the mortgage crisis in the US which began in March, 2008 followed by the collapse of the stock market in October, 2008 are finally being felt in Puerto Vallarta. Thanks to the strong Canadian Dollar, tourist expenditures in Vallarta for goods and services, including retirement real estate, held up fairly well for most of 2008. However, during the September/October timeframe, the Canadian Dollar plunged by more than 20%, thus reducing the Canadian purchasing power accordingly. Consequently, both the Americans and Canadians are now hesitant to aggressively invest in anything, especially foreign retirement properties.
