Puerto Vallarta real estate always offers many, diverse activities for residents of the city. Mexico retirement groups and foreign winter visitors enjoy participating in projects that protect and care for the areas nature and its creatures– one of Puerto Vallarta real estate’s most important attractions. During the summer months there has been an increased focus on protecting newly born sea turtles.
In the months of June / July the nesting season for the Olive Ridley Turtle – the most common sea turtle in the Puerto Vallarta area – began; the season lasts until November. The natural nesting cycle of the turtles includes abandoning the eggs for the 50 to 60 day incubation period, when the eggs hatch, and the newly-born turtles instinctively head for the sea. While it is a natural part of the process that many are taken by predators, including seagulls, it is important to ensure that a large number arrive safely to the sea, since these turtles are a threatened species.
In Puerto Vallarta, there are various organizations devoted to the protection of these turtles, which provide opportunities for volunteers and retirement groups to take newly born sea turtles to the edge of the water and help increase their chances of survival. The programs not only help prevent loss due to natural predators, but also make sure that swimming and other potentially disruptive sea activities are put on hold during the time that the turtles go to sea. The volunteers are organized, with a line drawn at the edge of the ocean so they don’t accidentally step on the turtles others are releasing.

Puerto Vallarta Real Estate slowed down considerably because of the global recession, then by the lull in tourism triggered by the swine flu travel advisory. Although the global economic situation continues, Puerto Vallarta´s resilient charm and beauty are bringing the tourists back again. This is good news for Puerto Vallarta Real Estate, showing that the city’s key industry is resilient and will continue to be strong.

Fifty years ago, before John Huston brought Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, and Deborah Kerr to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to film “The Night of The Iguana”, Vallarta was merely a sleepy little Mexican fishing village nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madres along the shores of Banderas Bay on the Pacific Ocean. Although the population at that time was only a few thousand friendly natives, the magnificent climate and incredible scenery was so inviting that Richard Burton and Liz Taylor fell in love with the village (and each other!) and bought a couple of “getaway” homes on the hillside overlooking the city.

First, let's define Pre-Boomer; obviously it's before Boomer! The Baby Boomer Generation is defined as those born after World War II; generally between the years of 1944 and 1964. Consequently, the oldest of the nearly 80 million US born Baby Boomers are just now turning 65 years old.
The Pre-Boomer Generation is typically defined as those born during the 20 year period prior to the end of WW II or roughly from 1924 to 1944. There were approximately 50 million people born in the US during this time frame. These Pre-Boomers are considered to be of the Silent Generation (a bit of a misnomer!); sometimes referred to as the Luckiest Generation. Lucky because they were born immediately after the Great Depression, were too young to serve in World War II and probably the Korean War, and too old to serve in the Viet Nam War. Since 95% of these Pre-Boomers have already retired, they are also lucky to be reaping the benefits of Social Security and Medicare; benefits that may not be available to many of the younger generations. Unlike the Baby Boomers that have recently lost 25-50% of their life savings prior to retirement due to the current recession and mortgage crisis, the Pre-Boomers are lucky because in all probability, they were able to purchase their retirement residence and have conservatively invested the balance, thus preventing a serious depletion of their retirement savings (and they have fewer years to make their remaining savings last!).

The State of Real Estate in Puerto Vallarta ~ Summer 2009

It is official the “wait and see” attitude has changed to “get ‘er done”. While last winter we all faced the slide of the US stock and orld markets and their jittery aftermath, then held our breath while we waited to see what was going to be its effects on the Puerto Vallarta
real estate market. Now we are seeing the resuscitation of that market. However, this is not without many lessons being learned. It is a new paradigm out there as many can attest to.
