“This is the business of the moment and Brazil has all the attributes to consolidate itself as a model that can attract patients, mainly from South and North Americas”, says Mauro Stormovsky. commercial manager of Health Brazil Consortium, composed by Syrian Lebanese, Heart, Brasilia, Windmill and Samaritan hospitals, engineering enterprises and research in society with the Promotion of Exportation and Investments Agency (Apex – Brazil).

Established in June 2006, the Consortium wants to focus in actions of disclosure of medical treatments in Brazil to individual patients, health plans operators, governments and specialized international agencies. “To have an idea, if in the USA a cardiac surgery costs US$ 100 mil dollars, here, it costs R$ 35 thousand, that’s lower than the price of India which is a great player in this market. Lower price treatments is the focus of international health planes”, explains Mauro. According to the manager, plastic surgery, cardiology, oncology and pediatrics are the specialties with more potential to attract foreign patients.

Investments

At the Syrian Lebanese [Sírio-Libanês], one of the hospitals that belongs to the Consortium, the investments in the technological area must come close to R$ 9 millions, in 2007. “Since last year, we decided to make a revolution in the hospital technological area. The ANS exigencies contribute to the changes that are happening, but we’re also focused on international health tourism”, says Antonio Carlos Onofre de Lira, director of the Information Technology area of Syrian Lebanese [Sírio Libanês].

With the investments, which are concentrated in a data center construction with 14 servers, wireless net implementation in the whole building and new technologies adopted as visit system and remote consultation (by a camera computer connection), the Hospital wants to attract a more foreign patients for treatments.

“Brazil starts to enter in a market that India, Malaysia and Singapore are very well consolidated. We want to intensify this interchange developing the technology, bringing new equipments and adopting international administration practices”, says Lira.

According to the director, countries of the Middle East are in the Hospital route because of the cultural proximity. Besides them, South America and United States are other potential clients.

In Samaritan [Samaritano], the investments in technology are also growing. To this year, the expenses with hardware, software and telecommunications foreknowledge must become to R$ 7 millions, excluding the amount for the medical area equipments. Procedures that guarantee the electronical image treatment, as x-rays and magnectical resonance, also are in the priorities list of the Hospital.
