Guatemala is located in Central America, just below Mexico. Guatemala is known as an eternal spring at its best. The cost of living in Guatemala is a fraction of what costs in North America or Europe. Retiring in Guatemala is at least a third less expensive than even Mexico.

In Guatemala City you can buy just about everything and anything you need. All the embassies as well as the best doctors can be found there. With just a foreign passport you can buy and own property legally. Newspaper, cable or Direct TV, a large cellular phone system, and at last but not least the internet keep you in touch with reality and your loved ones. The Guatemalan Mayan people are the most pleasant, genuine and humble. Guatemala is a great country to live in.

Guatemala Facts

Location: Central America, bordering the North Pacific Ocean, between El Salvador and Mexico, and bordering the Gulf of Honduras (Caribbean Sea) between Honduras and Belize. Central America and the Caribbean Coordinates: 15° 30" North, 90° 15" West

Land: Guatemala is mountainous, except for the south coastal area and the vast northern lowlands of Peten department. Two mountain chains enter Guatemala from west to east, dividing the country into three major regions: the highlands, where the mountains are located; the Pacific coast, south of the mountains; and the Petén region, north of the mountains. All major cities are located in the highlands and Pacific coast regions; by comparison, Petén is sparsely populated. These three regions vary in climate, elevation, and landscape, providing dramatic contrasts between hot and humid tropical lowlands and colder and drier highland peaks. Volcán Tajumulco, at 4,220 meters, is the highest point in the Central American states.

The number of Americans and Canadians living abroad, by today's count approximately 7 million (according to The Washington Post), is twice the population of Chicago and greater than that of 33 U.S. States. A number that has grown steadily over the past decade, and it is expected to more than double within ten years. In the next 20 years, 100 million baby boomers, from the USA and Canada, are going to retire. Five million baby boomers turn age 60 each year, Ten Thousand per day, Eight per minute, and scores of them are purchasing property abroad as vacation homes or investment homes. Naturally, many of them are auditioning these homes for potential primary retirement residences.
