about Campeche

alt
This is the capital of the state of Campeche and sits at 19ø51'N 90ø32'W / 19.85øN 90.53øW. right on the shore of the Bay of Campeche on the Gulf of Mexico side. The city has a population of well of 215,000 inhabitants.
Temperatures range from about 23 to 30 degrees Celsius in the winter, with night temperatures ranging from about 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. Some residents, even find this a bit chilly.

The Great History of Campeche

Campeche was founded in 1540 by the Conquistadores and was then named San Francisco de Campeche. This city was founded on the pre existing city of Canpech or Kimpech which was founded by themayans. At the time the Mayan city was said to have aproximatly 3,000 houses and several monuments.

Today, Campeche has kept many of the Spanish fortifications, which were once built to protect the city from invaders, pirates and buccaneers. For almost a century the city suffered attacks by famous buccaneers and pirates like, John Hawkins, Francis Drake,
Jean Lafitte, among others.  In 1686 the fortifications where built to protect the city from such invasions.

Today there are many opportunities left open in Campeche. Property is very affordable,as it has only recently started to attract international tourism. Thus the foreign community isalt small, and many of these foreigners are European, although this is quickly changing.
Investments in new developments are expected to grow quickly in this area.

Real Estate Developments in Campeche

There are many great areas in which development will grow in this area, some areas with beach front and others without it.  Prices of property in this area will seem a bargain for both Americans and Canadians coming into the area.
There are many activities and things to do in Campeche which keep both travelers and residents busy the entire year. The Calukmul reserve, is a natural reserve that is located along the southeastern ruins in the state. This area has been declared an ecological reserve and has 723,185 hectares. This is the largest environmental reservation in the entire country.

The historical downtown area is also of much interest as it is designed in the form of a Chess board. The town square was built for the entire community but just until recently was mainly used by the elite, for ceremonies and parties. Today the historical downtown is a mixture of modern amenities, with buildings that date back to the 16th, 17th, and 18th century.

The Cathedral is another great point of interest and it is located on the main square on 55th st, between 8th and 10th.  This cathedral was built in 1540 in honor of the Conceptions Virgin.

The boardwalk is one of Campeche's newest additions. This was built in 2000 and goes all along the waterfront. It's a great place to see people strolling by, a place to spend time together, watch the beautiful sunsets and enjoy the Gulf of Mexico.
