Veracruz was at one time New Spain’s main port in the new world and is still considered to Mexico’s main port city. Veracruz is home to close to 600,000 permanent residents. The culture is rich in traditional music, dance and art with a strong Spanish and Caribbean influence. Veracruz has a vibrant nightlife which is based around communal enjoyment of traditional music, food and dance in what is often referred to a carnival like atmosphere.
