The City of Eternal Spring!

The city of Cuernavaca is also known as the city of the Eternal Spring, because of its mild temperatures, and beautiful surrounding vegetation. The climate is always at about 20 degrees Celsius, or about 75 degrees Fahrenheit. It is the state capital of Morelos, and is located about an hour from Mexico city, three hours from Puebla, and 3 hours from Acapulco, making it very easily accessible.  The city boasts a population of about 700,000 permanent residents, with many more weekend visitors and tourists visiting each year. The city sits at an elevation of about 5,000 ft or 1,548 meters.                         Learn More

Steeped in Rich History
This is one of the oldest cities in the country and was founded by the Tlahuicas and was actually named Cuauhnahuac, but wasalt changed by the Spanish invaders to Cuernavaca, because of the difficulty in pronunciation of the indigenous name.  Among the most notable structures are the cathedral, one of Cortés’s haciendas, and Teopanzolco where noted ancient Aztec pyramids sit.
The hacienda of Cortez is a truly fascinating place because of the rich significance of the times. This fortress is now a museum and houses famous painting by Diego Rivera. Another place you want to get to, If you are visiting Cuernavaca is  the house of the Austrian Emperor Maximiliano de Habsburgo, called the Borda Gardens House.


Attractive to Retirees
Cuernavaca has a nice sized expatriate community and even an American club, with a newcomer’s registration of about 200 people a year here.  The city of Cuernavaca is also known for its fabulous Spanish language schools which are considered to be the best in the country.
