Mexico - Is booming again.
The number of national and foreign tourists who visited Mexico in 2011 reached of close to 190 million, 3.7% over 2010, informed the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR).

The US hotel chain AMResorts, will invest 400 million dollars in Mexico to open three new luxury hotels, two in Puerto Vallarta and one in Cancun.

The mining sector could invest close to four billion dollars in new projects, expansions, technology, training, environment and modernizations in 2012, similar to its investment in 2011, said the Mining Chamber of Mexico (CAMIMEX).

Mercedes Benz's bus division will invest 10 million dollars in its Villa García, Nuevo León facilities to produce three new models, creating 400 new jobs, according to the company.

The Japanese automotive parts manufacturer Yorozu will invest 900 million pesos to build a new plant in Guanajuato, Mexico, which will create approximately 230 jobs and sales of close to 800 million pesos.

The lighting specialist Hella will invest some 100 million dollars to build a new plant to manufacture car headlights and rear lights in Irapuato, Guanajuato.

AIAG, a non-profit organization that focuses on the automotive sector, and ProMéxico will offer quality, 16-week training programs to Mexican car suppliers in the country's main manufacturing centers. The goal is to improve their business processes and quality performance and to speed their development.

Mexico's agri-food exports increased by 21% in 2011, reaching 22 billion dollars, driven by the addition of 30 new destinations, informed the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA).

The aerospace sector is strategic for Mexico because it generates billions of dollars and is the source of specialized jobs, which trigger innovation and a higher added value in the production chain. Between 2008 and 2010, the industry captured 704 million dollars and more than 1.2 billion dollars in 2011, informed José Antonio Torre, undersecretary of Competitiveness and Regulations of the Ministry of Economy (SE).

As a result of Mexico's integration to the Wassenaar Agreement, its aerospace sector expects to triple the attraction of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the coming years and 11 billion dollars in exports, said Flavio Díaz, president of the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA).

Industrial production in Mexico increased by 3.8% in 2011, in real terms, compared to 2010, informed the National Statistics and Geography Institute (INEGI).

According to President Felipe Calderón, 50,834 formal jobs registered in the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) were created in January 2012, the highest number for this month in four years.
