San Miguel de Allende History- What was the Pamplonada like?

Posted by Marina von Anrep in Untagged

Marina von Anrep

[video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Dlkjxft7po 400x300]Take a look and see the feeling the Pamplonada or Running of the Bulls, later called the San Miguelada in its first year and then in the later years...it was a fever that filled San Miguel de Allende, Mx, later followed in the afternoon by a highly attended Bull fight in the downtown bullring on Recreo. Barbaric and alcoholic as it was as an event as the crowd got up their nerve, it was an unforgettable experience for those who attended even once or watched from a roof top.  In the later years as word circulated through MExico City, the crowds got so thick that the locals could not even get near the old dowtown, let alone close the barriers to watch. They watched at home on the local cable channel and were do afraid to drive anywhere for the all the drunks on the road in big expensive cars from MExico City. San Miguel de Allende Culture- Nature

Posted by Marina von Anrep in Untagged

San Miguel de Allende and the central part of Mexico was once a thick forest, destroyed by the plundering during the conquest hundreds of years ago. Now the area is semi desert like if it is not fertilized and planted. This breed of semi desert has it's own beauty and with the smallest amount of water and a little care the most amazing plant life emerges. You will see a photo of the famous 200 or more year old Sabino tree ouside of San Miguel de Allende on the road to Guanajuato. [video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKU3Dt-3DH8 100x100]

San Miguel de Allende History - In the Making

Posted by Marina von Anrep in Untagged

mary-in-the-processionOne of the cities with the most history other than Mexico City is San Miguel de Allende. This history is packed with rituals, traditions, and religious practices. From religious Christian ceremony displayed in pageantry on the streets to Indian pyramids that are positioned discretely on the surrounding hilltops they both stare at one another as time passes. At first you may think that all of this ancient history may not survive into the future, but many of the traditions that go on here are not only ancient traditions, they are practices by the locals who appear on the proper dates with all the necessary dedication and enthusiasm.

The Current Real Estate Atmosphere...are houses for Sale in San Miguel de Allende selling?

Posted by Marina von Anrep in Untagged

Every friend who is a real estate agent I have called in the past couple of weeks cannot meet for having clients so that means something. When you speak with local businesses they all say there is simply no business. However, all speculate that with the new UNESCO designation, houses for sale will triple...

The Favourite of San Miguel de Allende Activities-Learn Your Chilies!

You will be amazed by the selection and different flavours of Mexican chilies. They are not all unbearably hot, some are smoky, others not hot at all. Learning to make delectable salsas and making yourself familiar with all the different types is a really enjoyable way to spend your time in San Miguel. Find an expert in San Miguel activities and ask them to find you the best and most interesting and fun chef and ask to go on a series of morning trips to different markets followed by an in house lesson on how to prepare delicious breakfasts, salsas, national dishes like Chilies en Nogada, the best enchiladas, cook with nopal cactus and tons of cilantro, and make combinations you never thought possible. Sort of like the colour combinations you see in Mexico in flowers and colours of walls, combinations you never thought possible  and maybe even laughed at in the past….and wow they work.
