Its vast plains and craggy surfaces offer hiking for those in great physical shape. As for rappelling, the locations where it can be practiced have some true challenges in store, such as Peña del Gigante (Giant’s Crag): a 2,900-foot high vertical stone wall. Likewise, rock climbing enthusiasts will find challenges in the Basaseachi Falls National Park: There are 54 routes graded in difficulty from 5.8 to 5.13.

Mountain biking dirt paths are available for beginners, and steep slopes for the more daring, with the favorite spots being Batopilas Canyon, Copper Canyon and the Creel region.

Extreme aquatic sports are also available: for rafting and kayaking, the Rio Grande offers Class 1 and 2 rapids, in addition to beautiful landscapes; Papigochi River has Class 3 rapids during the rainy season, and the Urique River, navigable throughout the year, is noted for its Class 3 and 4 rapids.
