As a favorite for Americans who choose to live in Mexico, Playa del Carmen’s history draws attention to how quickly this area has become a top retirement destinations. 50 years ago, the only retirees in Playa del Carmen may have been a few fishermen, enjoying retirement on one of the world’s finest beaches decades before it was discovered by the outside world. Now Playa del Carmen real estate is home to as many as 5000 retirees living in the area. So, your planning to live in Mexico for your retirement, and you love the beachfront for vacations, but you also love the idea pf having close contact with the country’s wonderful old architecture, colorful culture and strong traditions of festivals and art. Not everything is about my Playa del Carmen real estate job and I thought I would share this not common event that occurs once a year. This past weekend marked the 4th year that a magical event has taken place in the Riviera Maya. It is a historical journey back to 500 BC, and is a re-enactment of the sacred pilgrimage of the Mayan culture to the island of Cuzamil (now known as Cozumel). Today in Playa del Carmen, the journey is accomplished as it was back in the day by handcrafted canoes and the oarsmen, many are brave volunteers, wear similar attire from that time as well.

Before starting my career in the Costa Maya real estate industry, my first trip to Mahahual was with my husband, and the sole purpose was to go scuba diving in Chinchorro Banks, a pristine coral atoll located 28 miles or 45 kms off the coast. Both being diving instructors and working in Cozumel at the time, we had heard so much about this magical place and were looking forward to going.

A Mexico Retirement for Canadians includes one of the most important factors to consider in your retirement; lifestyle. While budget and cost of day to day life are also a very important factor, the strong Canadian dollar, and continued price reductions in Mexico Real Estate make Mexico Retirement the perfect choice for the budget side of things. Yet, just as much as money, when you choose your retirement location, lifestyle and level of comfort and convenience must be considered, and when you're living in Mexico these items go happily hand in hand with the excellent budget choice it presents.

If you have been considering buying property in the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen Real Estate and Tulum Real Estate not only offer a relaxing beachfront lifestyle in beautiful properties, but also a wide range of activities and international events. Playa del Carmen and Tulum have been growing as international focal points, not only for tourism, but also for real estate purchases and permanent residents. This new international presence is reflected in what's going on; Jazz festivals with musicians from the U.S. and Canada, Italian cultural festivals, international sports events are just a few examples.
