From 1990 to 2010, the obesity rate in America has double in some states and tripled in others. The consequences are wider than our waistlines: soaring rates of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes (the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness and amputation).

You've heard us talk about the Green Zone LAP-BAND before and we don't want you to get bored of the topic...but it's such an important innovation in minimally invasive weight loss surgery, we're going to mention it again.
As a partner of Boomer's Abroad, Health Travel Technologies is proud to offer this groundbreaking series of live medical webcasts focused on common health issues, complex medical conditions, and breakthrough surgical treatments and devices.
Each webcast includes a web forum with surgeons and medical team specialists from our featured health care provider partners, and attendees are given the opportunity to talk directly with the attending medical team about procedure protocols and ask questions about their particular medical concerns.
The best news is, the webcasts are free! We hope you’ll take the opportunity to educate yourself about the particular condition, doctor and hospital you are considering for your medical travel. We look forward to meeting you in an upcoming webcast! Remember to check back frequently for new webcasts and added dates by bookmarking our Webcast Series Schedule.

This increase, dramatic as it is, is based on self-reported data and so is likely to be understated according to the CDC.
“Obesity is a societal problem and it will take a societal response” The federal government and some states are looking to legislation to reduce obesity through exercise and eating healthier foods. New York and California are considering a tax on sweetened soft drinks. First Lady Michelle Obama and cabinet secretaries are focusing initiatives on childhood obesity in particular, discussing expanding programs that provide fruits and vegetables to schools, hospitals and communities.
Another tool in the fight against obesity is weight loss surgery. While gastric bypass has traditionally been considered the gold standard of bariatrics, newer, less invasive restrictive procedures have become extremely popular, with more than 50,000 patients seeking adjustable gastric banding each year, drawn by the affordability and simplicity of the procedure.
Better, Stronger, Faster Results
In 2010, gastroenterology debuted a new restrictive procedure called gastric plication.
The plication procedure, which is available from only a handful of particularly skilled obesity surgeons, offers patients greater and faster weight loss than LAP-Band, without the use of devices or the need for follow-up for band adjustments and fills.
