Flowers are an ever present theme of life in Pátzcuaro, a Colonial Village in Mexico’s Central Highlands at an elevation of 7,200 feet. But don’t be mislead by our elevation. Because of our latitude at 19.52 degrees north, we have a sub-tropical climate and enjoy a vast range of plants, flowers, fruits, and vegetables that you find in both temperate and tropical climates.
To put our latitude of 19.52 north in perspective, the Big Island of Hawaii is a little north of us at 19.71 degrees, the Mexican Island of Cozumel is a little further north at 20.46 degrees, and the Turks and Caicos Islands are still further north at 21.72 degrees.

As a testimony to Pátzcuaro plants and flowers, I have compiled a picture slide show of the more than 150 species and varieties of plants and flowers that are found only in the garden of our home in Pátzcuaro. Our home, which we have named “La Jacaranda” after a flowering jacaranda tree in our front yard, is approximately ½ acre of landscaped garden surrounded by high walls. To see my slide show of these plants, please go to my Picasa Web Album: “Flowers & Plants in our Pátzcuaro Garden” at the following web address: http://picasaweb.google.com/Glen.Novinger/FlowersPlantsInOurPatzcuaroGarden#

When you arrive at the website, click on “Slideshow” in the top left corner and enjoy the show. Then schedule your next trip to our wonderful colonial village.

Hi Glenn, hope everything ik ok and I am not sure if you guys were in Patzcuaro for the day of the dead, I was there unfortunatelly mi wife and I had to skip the boat trip to Janitzio because there were about 10,000 people going to the island and we thougth the return trip was going to be an early one at dawn other than that we are always happy to see the local traditions something we cherish a lot, see you.

It is a beautiful festivity, very traditional in all Mexico and a good representation and manifestation of the local culture, it is special in Patzcuaro and Cuetzalan (Puebla)

NIGHT OF THE DEAD in PATZCUARO

Night of the Dead is observed each November 1 & 2 in Patzcuaro to celebrate the passing of loved ones to the spirit world after their lives on earth. This celebration is one of the 3 most important celebrations of the year and is attended by thousands of visitors and returning family members who decorate the graves of the deceased family members and spend the days and the night of November 2 at the graves to remember their loved ones and receive their spirits as they return to earth to visit the living.

Photos of this celebration may be found under Photos of my profile: Glen Novinger

Boomers Abroad

BoomersAbroad.com was born in direct response to hundreds of conversations with baby boomers from the USA and Canada who were seeking a new life, and to better understand how they might live abroad, travel abroad, relocate abroad, retire abroad and/or invest abroad. Leading industry experts and many of those who have journeyed ahead will share their personal experiences and knowledge in a great variety of areas.

Boomers Living Abroad

The number of Americans and Canadians living abroad, by today's count approximately 7 million (according to The Washington Post), is twice the population of Chicago and greater than that of 33 U.S. States. A number that has grown steadily over the past decade, and it is expected to more than double within ten years. In the next 20 years, 100 million baby boomers, from the USA and Canada, are going to retire. Five million baby boomers turn age 60 each year, Ten Thousand per day, Eight per minute, and scores of them are purchasing property abroad as vacation homes or investment homes. Naturally, many of them are auditioning these homes for potential primary retirement residences.

Boomers Abroad Online Community

At BoomersAbroad.com online community members can ask experts their questions, create their own profiles, join groups of those who share their particular interests, create their own groups, make friends, upload photos, and have their own blogs, among other features. Using the online community model, our goal is to provide the necessary information, education, guidance, resources, tools and alternatives to start boomers down the path of discovering and understanding all that living, retiring and investing abroad has to offer.
