Drink

While such wine drinks as clericó (white wine and fruit juice), medio y medio (sparkling wine and fruit juice), and beer (Uruguyan-made Pilsen) are popular, there is really only one drink: Mate.

Yerba Mate

The yerba is the herb—the powdered tea leaves. The mate is the gourd that holds the tea. And a bombilla is a metal—usually silver—straw that filters out the tea leaves, allowing you to enjoy the strong, bitter and healthy national drink.

Wine

Most common grapes are:

Red wine - Tannat, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah

White wine - Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Chenin, Muscat, Frontignan, Riesling, Semillon, Muscatel Ottonel and Torrontes
